La Eames Lounge Chair è un progetto che risale al 1956, ed è certamente una delle chaise longue più conosciuta e apprezzata al mondo. I coniugi Charles e Ray Eames la idearono a immagine di un caldo guanto avvolgente, calore sprigionato dalla poltrona stessa e dal suo rivestimento esterno, corredato infine da una seduta rivestita in pelle. Il progetto altro non è se non la risposta americana alla comoda poltrona da Club utilizzata in Inghilterra.

La chaise longue è formata da due pezzi distinti: la poltrona e il poggiapiedi, ovviamente corredati tra loro. Il basamento è in acciaio cromato, che regge la solida struttura impiallacciata in legno di diverse finiture. La scocca in legno è suddivisa in tre differenti fasce che avvolgono la schiena, collegate tra loro tramite raccordi cromati e gommati. Il cuscino invece è in pelle o ecopelle (nella versione più moderna), e data l elevata qualità e l eleganza progettuale non è contemplato il rivestimento in stoffa.

Le dimensioni della poltrona sono 84 cm di lunghezza x 84 in profondità x 85 in altezza, mentre il pouff misura 63 x 56 x 42 cm. La Chaise longue è prodotta da Vitra, ed è oggi diventata un vero status symbol, quasi un must da avere. E accostata spesso a pezzi altrettanto conosciuti come la poltrona Barcellona di Mies Van Der Rohe o la chaise longue di Le Corbusier.

The Eames Lounge Chair  has been around in its current form since 1956 but looks like it could have been made in 2006.  Like a Porsche 911 or the Converse All Star, some things are just timeless.
